Over 150 years ago, the discovery of gold was made in Victoria’s central region which is how the area became know as ‘The Goldfields’. There are two main cities in this region, Ballarat and Bendigo. Each one has it’s own unique charm and character where you will find ornate buildings, historic streetscapes and magestic gardens. A smaller town in this region but still well worth the visit is Castlemaine. Here you can take a walk through the botanical gardens, visit the Castlemaine gaol or the famous Castlemaine market.
